Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Symbiosis School of Sports Sciences (SSSS), the newest addition to the Symbiosis International University. The University places physical health and well-being high on the list of its priorities, and the founding of the School is a footstep on the path to all-inclusive education. I am confident that the School will provide a nurturing environment for academic programs related to sports sciences and that it will go further and serve as a medium through which related activities and events may be planned and executed.
I would like to take this opportunity to articulate the high importance that we, at Symbiosis, accord to health, and the resulting emphasis we place on sports and recreation. As someone who comes from a background in the physical sciences, I have long advocated the incorporation of structured physical exercise, sports training, and recreational activities into curriculum and also into those activities that are not directly related to the curriculum. Sports must be an integral component of personality-building for the youth. In addition to enhancing academic performance, sports enrich a range of personal capabilities: self-esteem, leadership skills, healthy competitiveness, discipline, team-membership, goal-setting, time- management etc. All of these are core skills, which are crucial for positive youth- development.
Sports science, as an area of study, has expanded significantly in the recent times. Staying true to that growth, the School offers a wide range of academic programs, including an MBA program in Sports Management and many courses related to Event Management in Sports, Sports Technology, and Human Resource Management in Sports. The Institute is located on the Symbiosis International University's campus in Lavale. A quick tour of the campus will tell you why the University ranks high year after year. Our resources are nothing short of first-rate. Possibly our most shining achievement has been our success with respect to internationalization. We have students from eighty-five countries and collaboration with countless foreign institutions. Internationalization is our institutional mission every step of the way. I invite you to visit us and learn more.
I welcome you again to Symbiosis and wish you every success.
